Berlin, July 25 (UNI) Operations at Frankfurt Airport were temporarily suspended after several climate activists gained access to the runway and glued themselves to the tarmac on Thursday, the German airport said on the X social media platform.
Federal and state police, as well as the airport security and fire departments, responded immediately, it said. The entire airport suspended flight operations for about two hours due to safety concerns.
Approximately 1,400 flights were scheduled for the day, and more than 50 flights were diverted away from Frankfurt Thursday morning. Passengers were advised to check their flight status on the airlines' websites before travelling to the airport.
At 0502 GMT, one of the airport's landing runways was able to operate again, and the airport has been ramping up efforts to restore full operation.
